Groovetech Podcast 026 – Best of 2016 – Techno, House and Minimal

Hello Everyone. As we approach the half mark of the year, I thought I would take a page out of what is expected and put together a mix of the best tracks released in 2016 so far. Contrary to beatport charts and the bobo’s of music, cheaply produced “techbro” mp3’s – in this day and age, I stick to vinyl. I find too many producers unwilling (or unable) to take a step out of the typical mould and produce something special. But that’s what excites me about Djing and music in general. Balancing predictability with surprise. Sure, most people want to hear DJ’s play their favourite style. Sadly, most Djs fail to understand that people still want to hear something new, even in the age of big data and algorithms. There’s still room for curiosity in 2016.

Special thanks must go out to the artists who have been bucking the trends and still put out quality releases such as the 22 original tracks, remixes and edits you will find neatly mixed in to this hour. Unlike most DJ’s out there, who claim to play “across styles” this 22 track Vinyl ONLY DJ set crosses the paths of genres like Deep House, Tough Techno, Banging Acid and Disco (Yes – Disco) in just 60 minutes.
